Mary SangHyun Yong is the Principal violist of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. She has performed around the globe, working with musicians from prestigious organizations such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Guarneri Quartet, and the Juilliard Quartet. 

As the Principal violist, Ms. Yong regularly plays in the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Her love for orchestral works has also led her to play in many other established orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, East Coast Chamber Orchestra, New York City Ballet Orchestra, IRIS Orchestra, and Princeton Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed under the baton of renown conductors such as Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, Alan Gilbert, Nicholas Harnoncourt, and Marin Alsop.

Active as a soloist, Ms. Yong has soloed with numerous orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and Burlington Chamber Orchestra. She is also a prizewinner of the Primrose International Viola Competition and Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition.

Ms. Yong has over 15 years of teaching experience. She currently teaches at the Symphony in C Youth Orchestra. She also has a private studio in Marlton, NJ where she teaches violin and viola. Mary has earned a Bachelor’s degree from Curtis Institute of Music and a Master’s degree from the Juilliard School. 

Ms. Yong is also a mother of three boys. When she is not at work, she loves to spend time with her boys and cook healthy meals for the family.
